Miller Elementary PTO Minutes

Date: Monday March 25th, 2019

Meeting came to order at 4:00 pm with the Pledge of Allegiance

Treasurer’s Report

  • Candy Grahams were a big hit, $560 raised.
  • Carnival raised $4,500 after expenses.Ran smoothly thanks to many parent and student volunteers from the community.
  • Spirit Wear- $585 sold, $657 paid to merchant for past bills.

Principle Gilbert’s Report

  • With all the snow days this winter, we have been allowed to postpone MSTEP Testing dates by 1 week to ensure enough time to get to all the required material.Exact dates will be released in April along with dates for yearend NWEA testing.All testing will take place mid-April through the end of May, starting with 5th Grade.MSTEP Testing will be over Reading and Math for 3rd & 4th Graders and Reading, Math, Social Studies and Science for all 5th Graders.NWEA Testing is on Reading and Math for all students.

  • Bond Meeting on March 28th at 5:30 pm at Renton Jr. High School.A motion was made and unanimously passed that the PTO would make a donation to the Committee of Caring Chiefs to support their efforts on the Bond issue.An exact amount is yet to be determined for said donation.Information about the Bond is available via Facebook at “Committee of Caring Chiefs” and on the huronschools.org website. Dana Town is committee chairperson.Bond Issue voting day is Tuesday May 7th at your registered voting location.School will be in session at Miller Elementary that day even though voting will be taking place in the building. Absentee ballot requests are available to pick up in the office and mail in.The Absentee Voting ballot arrives in the mail within 3 days.This Bond is extremely important for our school district and is much needed.Everyone should vote.

  • Kristin Dews is the new Elementary School Psychologist for our district and will be available at Miller on Mondays and Wednesdays for the remainder of the school year.

Spring Book Fair

  • May 20-24th in the Miller Elementary Library.Julia and Holly to organize with family friendly evening activities and shopping opportunities planned.The Book Fair is through Scholastic Book Co. and raises money for new books in classrooms as well as the yearly subscriptions to Scholastic News for all Miller Classes.More information to come.
    Teacher Appreciation Week
  • May 6-10th, Leslie to make nice Thank You cards again for all Miller Teachers.Gift cards will be given and K-cups restocked in the teacher’s lounge courtesy of Miller PTO.
    Upcoming Events
  • Field Day- Possible date of May 28,Mr. Lannon to head with support from the PTO.
  • 5th Grade Graduation- June 13th at 1:30.Ashley Wistinghausen to organize folders to be sent home again for parents and students with all information.
  • 2nd Trimester Honor Roll- List obtained, stars to be put onto honorees lockers with their names on them by Raeann Ramsby.Magnetic stars will be reused each trimester and more can be purchased if needed from Amazon.

PTO 2019-2020 Board Elections

  • Positions of PTO President and Secretary are available.Nominations can be made by anyone and can be for either yourself or another person.Nomination cards available outside the office to fill out and should be returned to Denise no later than May 12th.
  • Elections based on these nominations will be held at the next PTO Meeting on Monday May 13th at 6:00 at Miller Elementary, either in the library or cafeteria.Anyone can attend the meeting and vote!Fresh faces are welcomed and encouraged!

Meeting was brought to a close at 4:45 pm.
